The sun was setting over that very desolate range of mountains.  The light and golden glow made everything beautiful.  Everything. Price includes frame and shipping.

The sun brings its' own beauty each night.  Sometimes, the light and colors are spectacularly glowing.  Sometimes, they are soft and peaceful.  Sometimes, we don't see the sun at all, but we know it is there, just covered up for a bit.  Kind of allegorical, I think.  This painting will be part of Frame of Reference Gallery's group holiday sale, in Whitefish, Montana.  There will be many beautiful paintings, in all types of styles and mediums.

We saw the most amazing skies in the high desert areas recently. 

I love driving at night and looking at lights off in the distance in these lonely places.   The trees really define the contours of the land. It is a wonder to me that folks live in such isolated places.   Available.

The low light times and the moonlit times in the high desert cause one to pause, take a look, think deep thoughts and the love the beauty of it all.

A blanket of fog covered the land and sea as dawn approached.  It was a lovely, quiet and hushed walk.  Price includes frame and shipping.

This is a scene of southern Colorado ranch land.  All that open country holds untold stories, waiting to be heard!  Price includes frame and shipping.

Somebody probably lives out there somewhere, but I surely cannot tell.  That New Mexico landscape goes on forever.  Price includes frame and shipping.

These high desert hills and mountains are in northeastern New Mexico, not far from Stateline.  It is high, wide open and very solitary country.

This painting will be shown at "Montana Miniatures Art Show and Sale", March 18-21, 2020, at Out West Art Show.  Paintings will be offered at silent auction or buy it now.  This will be my first time in the show.  It is a great show, with many lovely works of art, in all manner of styles.

The contours of the land are defined by the pinon and jupiter trees.  The composition possibilities are endless, especially in the low light times of day.  At sunrise and sunset the land becomes peaceful, quiet and compelling.  Top 15% FASO Bold Brush, February, 2020.

The wide open high desert contours are very interesting and compelling.  The day's end colors change in a heartbeat, creating drama, longing and  finally, a sense of peacefulness to an isolated land.  

Lonely places do inspire creative endeavors........the mind and soul have a clear path to creativity, without the noise of cultural mandates.

This red dirt road in Colorado wound up into the pinon/juniper woodlands.  These woodlands hug the hills and horizon, showing the immensity and depth of a wide open countryside.  

Such night time beauty calls us to attention, showing us there  are moments of peace, loveliness and quiet to still our hurried hearts and minds.

I was driving into the night to get to San Antonio, Texas for a show my daughter was in.  The land was vast and empty, beautiful and desolate.

I loved it all.  For this work I used a 4 color palette, with titanium white.

The bright, morning sun  gave light to the night's gift to this desert land.  It was a rare and fleeting gift.  It did not last long.   But for a few minutes, this midwestern grown heart reveled in the scent of a desert snow, feeling the freshness on my face and loving the short lived beauty.

It gives me great pleasure to announce "When the Sun Arose" will be offered for sale in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum's "Small Works Great Wonders Winter Art Sale".  The show opens November 5, 2016 for viewing, with the sale taking place November 11, 2016.
